US DOW -4.15 over a 1,033 point the last 500pts fell in less than 30 minutes, that is after main stream news outlets were saying that calm has returned to the market when stocks opened.  Looks like Tues recovery was  as dead cat bounce.

I took a few $k out of the bank - will check tomorrow morning how the US stocks went prior to making a decision to activate any higher level SHTF contingency measures.

Looks like there is a daily limit on withdrawals, my mate just rang me and the CBA will not give him more than $2500 cash over the counter...  he took that 2.5k out and went to visit another branch which rejected him the request to take more $$ out because the daily limit was reached with another branch.
He also took the $800 cash out from ATM but that was the limit for the day too so went back to his branch to unleash his anger however shortly after that cops came and arrested him the released with a fine for public nuisance :(
People this is real, go take as much cash as you can out before its to late :(

That is strange!!  My understanding is that there are two things spooking the market  interest rate rise - i.e. bonds going up.  and a money crunch - money is not flowing through the system, causing cash flow or velocity problems everywhere....

my wife and I have a joint account and 2 cards each a debit and efpos so can go online and up limits to max on each card and can get quit a pit a money out.  I just purchased a secondhand car cash  for children that are now all in tertiary education so only have a few $K in cash. At least gov is not getting it.

If banks close and things go only cash I am sure one can negotiate a big discounts and get an additional 12 months food storage.

The royal commission has uncovered a lot of shit, hopefully the big banks will be held responsible for all the bad loans they issued  :(

Yeah like they had a mortage over 1.5 million worth of cattle properties of ours.
And then I wanted a personal loan to buy a dozer and the arseholes said it was unsecured and charged me 6% over our overdraft rate the bastards!
Suncorp bank, what a mob of pricks!
They did not like it when I paid the overdraft out and discharged all our mortages.

Suncorp were batards even back when they were SGIO. Had a bit of a run in with them over my mums estate a couple of years ago. Gave them the bum's rush.

There is major instability in global markets today, even CNN and mainstream media are pushing a negative vibe.

I posted previously about the Italian election - it has been a long time in the making, but a populist government is now being formed, they are anti EU and want to ditch the Euro, on top of everything else going it is causing problems.  Emerging markets (EM) especially Iran, South Africa, Brazil  are crashing as interest rates rise and the USD  which is a double whammy.

Turkish Lira is also falling like a brick.  They hipped the interest rate overnight by a whopping 3% in one go  :o

Yeah the entire system is manipulated and there is a lot of political and reserve bank interference - it is no longer an open market.  Sooner or later they will run out of road to kick the can down.

Turkey economy is struggling, a 3% rate rise will put more drag on the system.  All the debt has to at some point spill over to higher interest rates that will crash the system.

Yeah I am astonished that they are able to keep the system propped up.  It will only make the crash worse when they loose all control and then they will have no ability to intervene.  Turkey boost to their currency by the 3% rate rise has all been undone in one day.

Update: not long after we published this, the Lira plunged some more, tumbling more than 4% on the day after some comment from the ruling party that could have been... avoided:

TURKISH RULING AK PARTY'S ELECTION DECLARATION SAYS WILL TAKE MEASURES IN COMING PERIOD TO EASE FINANCIAL PRESSURE CAUSED BY INTEREST RATES
TURKISH LIRA FALLS 4% AGAINST THE DOLLAR
As widely expected , the beneficial boost to the Turkish Lira from yesterday's emergency 3% hike in the late liquidity window rate by the Turkish Central Bank did not even last one full day, and on Thursday the Turkish Lira collapse resumed, with the currency reversing much of yesterday's gains, sliding as much as 3.5% - the biggest decline across Emerging Markets - amid the previously discussed concerns that the rate hike will provide only temporary support.
