New 223 rifle.
« on: July 03, 2018, 07:13:58 pm »

Hey guys,

Im looking to buy a new pistol and rifle to add to my collection.

Currently have:
GSG 1911 .22
Walther P22 target .22
Savage MKII FVSR .22
Howa 1500 heavy barrel 20" .223

Now, the .22 pistols are for weekly practice for my partner and I.
Now im looking to finally upscale to a Sig P320 120mm barrel in 9mm. Pretty well set on that.

Now the whole reason for this post, the new rifle. The howa is just too heavy to carry around all day, good for stationary use really. Now i want to stick with the .223 as there is no need to current even more calibers of ammunition.

Looking for light and short in a .223. The only thing i have found that i can see myself liking is the Savage 110 scout.

What are your thoughts on this rifle?

I would be inclined to go with a lightweight Howa 20in std barrel with a lightweight synthetic stock!
they are good value and you will already be familiar with the action/safety etc!
no fumbling for that different safety and interchangeable mags!

I did think about this, but i dont have a drama with using different brands/mags. Its also handy due to not having to take one set up, leaving it with someone else, and taking another.
The issue with the same mags is that the current howa takes the lucky 13 mags. However my knowledge of mag interchangeability is very limited to none existent.

Its either this or the remington 7615 that i am liking due to weight. Sure itll never be as light as the savage .22 i have, but i still need to watch it as ammo adds up too.

Hey all...been away for a long time...How's everybody??
Had to have a total knee replacement as it was really buggered, and that set me back....

Anyway...I wonder if the magazine of this savage would fit the Axis??
Cheers!

Hey Z I think you'll find this rifle to be pretty much the same weight as the howa just had a look at the weight of both rifles and they're pretty similar plus the weight of a scope I have a howa mini action 223 and love it for short walks like you said then I have a tikka 223 light sporter which weighs under 1.5kg for the longer treks

I just got the scales out again, I must of not dialed them in before I weighed it last.
Not too bad, but lack of iron sights though.

If you want something light go no further than the 2.4 kg Sako 85 Carbonlight
I have one in 308 and is really light  ;)
